"Jesus
couldn't be kept in a box, so why should
His music?" -- Kirk Bovill
The style of Kirk's song writing is as diverse
as it is original. The music has evolved
over the years to become a unique sound.
Joni has contributed her gospel and jazz
background to add extra flavor to the mix.
Musical critics have raved about the two
CDs that the talented pair have released
under Elmo Records.
The
first track on Are You Ready, Let
Go reached number one
on Uncle Sammie's Zoo indie top 50 charts.
That Is Why reached number five.
“An
astonishingly unique effort from one of
today's hottest independent artists. Are
You Ready? is easily one of the
five best independent projects I've heard
since moving to Nashville over a decade
ago…Ready is full of more hooks and grooves
than many artists are able to conjure up
in a decade. The project accomplishes the
near-impossible, veering between jazz, rock,
blues, R&B, soul, gospel, funk, straight-up
pop, even rap, yet managing to sound extraordinarily
cohesive, thanks in part to the excellent
musicianship found throughout.”
Aaron
King, CCM
“Hopefully
it's clear that Kirk and Joni aren't simply
shifting styles from song to song—they're
effortlessly blending styles within a song…
Like their first album, their sophomore
effort Are You Ready is
a delightfully eclectic blend of pop, jazz,
rock, gospel, funk, and R&B.”
Russ
Breimeier, Christianity Today.com
“A
cross section of styles and approaches to
musical ministry that defies categorization
while appealing to a wide audience...an
edgy, soul-rock-folk fusion that brings
surprises at nearly every turn.”
Stan
North, GospelFlava.com
“I
defy anyone to categorize this CD!
Equal portions of jazz, rock, fusion, blues…it's
all that and more! This is an aural
banquet! Bravo! 5 Stars!”
Pastor
Samme, RockLine Magazine & The Living
Rock Ministries/WITR-FM
“One
of a kind collection with excellent production,
songwriting, vocals and message. It's a
combination of style you've got to hear
to believe.”
Sonia
Vannest, The Spirit Radio
Kirk
and Joni have continued to spread their
ministry in multiple directions within the
entertainment industry. They moved down
to Los Angeles in 2002 to pursue television
and movie careers, as well as continue with
their musical pursuits. Their music was
heard on the TBN series “Believers Among
Us”. Kirk took a guest star turn in the
fourth episode as a producer. Joni appeared
in the same episode as a background singer.
Kirk
is three-time finalist award winner in the
USA Songwriting Competition's
Gospel category (2001, 2002 and 2004). In
addition, Kirk had six songs reach the finals
of the Dallas Songwriters Contest
in 2005. Do You Believe was the
runner-up in the Christian category and
the instrumental of the Lord's Prayer was
runner-up in the jazz category.
The music reaches
a wide demographic of listeners. Kirk and
Joni have played in large music festivals
such as Spirit West Coast and the Joshua
Festival, appeared on TBN and TV One and
have sung in several churches.
The
Bovill's home church is Shepherd of the
Hills under the leadership of Dudley Rutherford
in Porter Ranch, California.
